House (2100 sq. ft.) in Paradox, NY
0.1 miles from Paradox Lake
Situated 75’ from the water’s edge and facing due west, our unique family compound with 250’ of shoreline on pristine Paradox Lake is ideal for a family or extended family with children, and has much to offer: from swimming in waters noted for its quality and clarity, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing (trout, bass, northern pike abound), to hiking the countless trails in the area and high peaks. Bird watching is especially rewarding, from hummingbirds to osprey to even the family of eagles that make their home nearby. Early morning you can catch sight of the Blue Heron as he makes his daily crossing and end your day by toasting a superb sunset accompanied by the antics and cries of the loon family, as they teach their youngster to fish. The two original structures were part of Camp Nawita (circa1920-1970), and are now beautifully renovated, with fireplaces, and an over sized screened-in porch (12X40). They are designed as separate quarters: the sleeping cabin and the living cabin and are connected by a common deck. The sleeping cabin has a sitting room with wood stove and sleeps 4 in beds, with a master bedroom, a smaller room with two twin beds and as well as a futon that can be placed wherever needed. It has a full bathroom with double sinks, and a separate heated room for the tub/shower and toilet. The main living space houses the kitchen, living room with birch bark fireplace, a piano, Adirondack style media cabinet. A sleeping loft is above the kitchen, with queen sized bed as well a a single mattress. The highlight of this cabin is the over sized fully screened porch, where family dinners take place nightly (2 dining tables are available, as well as a children's picnic table), the waning sunset in direct view. The third structure, what we call The Music Cabin, because it too has a piano, was built in a similar style in 1996. This cabin offers small kitchenette, a sleeping loft (with Queen-sized bed) and has a Brass Double bed on the main floor. The bathroom is equipped with a steam shower. The large deck that surrounds this house also offers a westward view, has an outdoor shower and gazebo (to watch a rainstorm without getting wet!) and is an ideal get-away for some private time alone. Paradox Lake is 5 miles from the quaint town of Schroon, where one can enjoy many varied activities: square dancing, classical theatrical repertory, current movies as well as the Seagle Music Colony the oldest summer vocal training program in the United States producing premier opera and musical theater. Enjoy dining in one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. Day trips to nearby historic Fort Ticonderoga ( and Lake Placid offer a fascinating and educational experience for families. Ideal for a single family or perfect for an extended family vacation.

What is nice about this spot is it's enough off the beaten path, but close enough yet to the village of Schroon as well as a great starting point for most of the attractions--hiking the high peaks, skiing and boating, just to name a few. We do have a few kayaks available if not being used by family or other guests. They are kept by our swimming hole and you are welcome to them. ***PLEASE READ: You are not completely isolated here, but still very private. We are VERY considerate of our guests but If you are looking for complete isolation, this is NOT the right place for you. You will see horses and if you venture out of the apartment into our yards, you may see our family riding horses or running around. You cannot see any main roads, just the driveway. You may also see an occasional dirtbike head into the woods. Horse lessons occasionally happen in the horse arena down the hill from you, feel free to come and watch, we have found our guests love to see the horses work. The ONLY spaces shared with other people or our family would be the swimming hole. Bring your bathing suit and travel a short beaten path (or drive your car if not up for the walk) to our private swimming hole in Schroon River. There is access for kayaks, tubes or just lounging in the water. We have a few kayaks available for your use on a first come, first serve basis. If you see them down there, feel free to take them and paddle up river. View the Schroon falls just at the end of the driveway or take trails to explore a brook and beautiful woods. We are a short 8 min drive into the town. We offer a gas grill and firepit during the summer and fall, but not during the winter and early spring.

House (1500 sq. ft.) in North Hudson, NY
3.1 miles from Paradox Lake
Johnson Pond is located 15 minutes north of the town of Schroon Lake in the heart of the Central Adirondacks. Schroon has grocery, hardware, dining and a movie theatre. There is a gas station with staples five minutes from the cabin. Keene Valley and Keene are 25-30 minutes northwest by car and Lake Placid is 40 minutes, all surrounded by hundreds of Adirondack hiking trails with some trails only minutes away. The two-story cabin was hand-crafted and built out by family members with beautiful wide-plank hardwood floors and wood detailing and is approx. 1500 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, (one private bath off the master bedroom with clawfoot tub, and one shared bathroom with shower, both on the second floor). The Chef's kitchen has a large island for cooking, a large fridge, a six-burner stovetop range, an oven and an outdoor gas grill. There is ample cupboard and food storage areas, and the pantry is fully stocked with all cooking necessities. There is a proper dining area off the kitchen which seats six and another dining area on the front porch. The house has two amazing screened-in porches, one runs the width of the house on the front and has a dining area, sitting area and brass bed. The second porch is off the master bedroom nestled in a cathedral of trees. The master bedroom has multiple windows on three sides, the middle bedroom has two windows on one side and a closet and the third bedroom is on the corner with windows on two sides and a closet. Two beds are queens and the middle one is a full-size. PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID, we are asking guests to provide linens and towels. The water is well and we have installed a filtration system to eliminate the naturally-occurring sulfur that is unpleasant to some guests. There is a standup Sparkletts drinking water station, which we operate on an honors system for guests to manage for themselves and replenish for future guests. There are two living room areas for socializing and relaxing. There is a TV with DVD player. There are some DVDs onsite, feel free to bring your own. There is Wi-Fi for email and text (phone calls are out of range on smart devices) and a landline phone for calls. A beautiful hand-crafted walkway leads down to the beach with dock and diving board and a small boathouse with canoe, kayak and standup paddle board. The solar panels can run for approx. two to three days with good weather and efficient usage. Once the backup generator kicks on, it will charge in about four hours and should add another two days of power, dependent on weather. This is a very beautiful and remote place. Because it is off-grid, there are only eight or nine small cabins on the whole pond and you often do not see or hear others for days, sometimes weeks at a time. If you are looking for peace and solitude while you fall asleep to the sounds of the loons, it does not get any better than this.

We are pleased to announce the newest addition to the Great Camp on Eagle Lake, THE PINE APARTMENT. This newly renovated apartment (completed in May 2021) offers an intimate vacation retreat for couples at the Great Camp on Eagle Lake. Located in an unique historic building located on Eagle Lake in the town of Ticonderoga, the Pine Apartment has four-seasons of mountain and lakes outdoor activities. Originally, the building was built during the Gilded Age (early 1900’s) as a private Great Camp home to the Spaulding family. Eighty five years later, our family purchased the property and did a complete renovation. In 2021, we were at it again with the newly renovated Pine Apartment. During both projects, it has been our mission to keep many of the original features of being a Great Camp, while modernizing much of it to today’s comforts. Guests of the Pine Apartment enjoy: - Access to the Great Camp on Eagle Lake's sandy beach located in a quiet lake cove with boathouse and Adirondack chairs for lounging located just steps from the Pine Apartment. - Summer, Spring & Fall: access to kayaks, canoe, four-person paddle boat and row boat provided for exploring the lake and fishing. Life vests in a variety of sizes provided in the boat house. - Access to the Great Camp's lakeside Bonfire Area - The Pine Apartment's private deck with lake/mountain views and gas grill. - Newly renovated custom-designed Kitchen made from locally sourced raw wood in the traditional of Adirondack Great Camp architecture. - Newly renovated Bathroom - Newly renovated Living Room - Features original Artwork from local artists and craftsmen - Large parking area with plenty of room for multiple cars. - Complimentary seasonal Welcome Gift with take-home memento from your visit. - WiFi is available through-out the building. The Pine Apartment is an unique blend of old and new; keeping the character of being an Adirondack Gilded Age Great Camp while not sacrificing any of the modern conveniences of today. EAGLE LAKE Eagle Lake is known as one of the quieter lakes in the region with an abundance of wildlife, tranquil panoramic views and ample outdoor recreation activities by water or land. Eagle Lake features 410-acres of crystal-clear water formed on a plateau with an elevation of 951 feet and is 2.5 miles in length. The source of water that creates Eagle Lake includes an underground aquafer which is why it is known for its pristine waters. Loons, Deer, Brown Trout, American Eagles, Largemouth Bass, Otters, Osprey, Green Frogs, Racoons, Beavers, Moose and more are some of the wildlife that you'll see when visiting. In addition to all of the recreational activities just steps outside, the area offers endless hiking trails, historic landmarks including the famous Fort Ticonderoga located only 10 miles from the home, the Star Trek museum located 8 miles from the home, downtown Schroon Lake located 12 miles from the home and a variety of farm stands and apple orchards selling locally grown produce. WHAT IS AN ADIRONDACK GREAT CAMP? Early 19th century architects created function from form, taking design cues from nature to establish one of the most recognizable architectural styles of the era – Adirondack Rustic. Expansive lodging compounds, referred to as Great Camps, were designed to blend into their natural surroundings, offering rustic yet luxurious retreats for the Gilded Age elite. Adirondack Great Camps were as synonymous with the Gilded Age as the names Vanderbilt and Rockefeller. Designed to blend into their natural surroundings, these sprawling compounds spanned the most coveted shorelines of the Adirondacks – as well as some of the most remote. The Great Camp on Eagle Lake is one of the homes in the Adirondacks to have this shared history. If you are looking for a unique location for your Adirondack vacation, this location is ideal for making memories that will last a lifetime.

SOME OF OUR HOME'S HISTORY The Spaulding Family purchased the property at the beginning of the Gilded Age and built it section-by-section. At one time, the room we refer to as the "Great Room" was the entire structure. As our family did the renovations, we could see and date when each new section was built from the stud work and around window frames where period newspapers were used as insulation. Due to the condition of the house and grounds in 1982 when it was purchased, some of the original features of the home were not salvageable. For example, the outside of the home was once all half pine logs which we had to replace because of water rot. However, on the enclosed porch, the interior walls still have the original pine log siding that once encompassed the whole home. The boat house you see today is actually the second boat house built by the Spaulding's, The first one was destroyed during an early spring landslide off the mountain behind the home that pushed it onto the partially-still-frozen lake. Rather than remove the damaged one, the Spaulding family allowed it to sink to the bottom of the cove and built a new one in its place. When you snorkel in front of the current boat house, you can see some of the original boat house's remints including beams and stone work. One of the advantages of having the original boat house underwater is that it created an ideal habitat for many species of local fish; making the beach area a great fishing location. Wherever possible, original features of the Spaulding's Great Adirondack Camp was kept during the renovations including the fireplaces, hard wood floors, French doors, built-in book shelves, Gazebo, Boat House, and so much more. For 8 years following the purchase of the home in 1982, the whole family worked together to complete all the renovations. WHAT IS AN ADIRONDACK GREAT CAMP? Early 19th century architects created function from form, taking design cues from nature to establish one of the most recognizable architectural styles of the era – Adirondack Rustic. Expansive lodging estates, referred to as Great Camps, were designed to blend into their natural surroundings, offering rustic yet luxurious retreats for the Gilded Age elite. When you snorkel in front of the current boat house, you can see some of the original boat house's remains including beams and stone work. It was a labor of love then, and continues to be some 38 years later; as we have continued to improve and maintain the beauty of this Adirondack Great Camp. If you are looking for a unique location for your Adirondack vacation, this location is ideal for making memories that will last a lifetime.

Lodge (2100 sq. ft.) in Schroon Lake, NY
5.7 miles from Paradox Lake
Your vacation home is Running Deer Lodge, a lovely cedar log cabin chalet on the edge of one of the most private and secluded lakes in this wilderness park. See more deer, beaver, osprey and loons, than you will people. Authentic furnishings in a Great Camp tradition throughout. Three bedrooms (and an overflow sofa bed in the lower den), enough for two families and children. A wall of glass opens the cathedral ceiling living/dining area to the lake, mountain views, and sunsets. Fully equipped modern kitchen, a den, 3 boats, 1 kayak, dock and float. We have been told that this is one of the most attractive camps in the Adirondacks available for rent. Furnished and decorated in the best style (J. S. Crew asked to shoot their summer catalog here). Many of our guests come back year after year. The kids especially love it. Guest comments: Wow did we have a wonderful stay at Running Deer! The nice thing is having family members drop by for a day or so and sharing in their amazement at how beautiful the place is. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Thanks, S. D. 2007 A wonderful week! Everything was just great, the weather, lodge, all the wildlife (beaver, bald eagles, loons, heron), and especially the fishing! Lots of bass (a few 5 lb+) and two huge pike 36'-38.' Looking forward to next year. Thanks again, J. M. 2007 These two letters are characteristic of those we receive each year.

Cabin in Schroon Lake, NY
6 miles from Paradox Lake
Our second Luxury Log Cabin at Schroon Lake is our newest Log Cabin. It was built in the heart of the Adirondacks and completed July 1, 2017. Our guests are loving it!! We are so grateful for the success of our 5 Star rated original Log Cabin at Schroon Lake (see Listing #234045), and this new cabin now boasts a solid five star rating as well! Log Cabin II is located just to the north overlooking the crystal clear, nine mile long Schroon Lake. Both cabins are separated by forest and each offers seclusion as well as a tremendous view. After your busy day, come home to the privacy of your own authentic Adirondack log cabin. Relax on the spacious deck overlooking a generous six mile view of the lake. Go up to the second story deck for another spectacular view. Share stories of your day and bond with each other in front of a cozy evening campfire at the log leanto. Or head inside, kick back, get comfortable and just do nothing in this beautiful genuine log cabin. Enjoy the majestic natural stone fireplace and chimney or enjoy a movie in the loft or a game of ping pong, air hockey, or darts in the basement. Relax and enjoy! There is no better place than the Adirondacks! There are so many things to do in Schroon Lake and the surrounding areas; Seagle Art Community, the beautiful Schroon Lake Public Beach, Schroon Lake Boathouse Concerts, Scaroon Manor State Park, Paradox Brewery Tour, Fort Ticonderoga, Lake George, and so much more. WINTER - Skiing is great in the Eastern Adirondacks and the Schroon Lake Log Cabin II is right between two of the best ski centers in the east. Gore Mountain and Whiteface Mountain. Whiteface is a bit of a drive, but Gore is nearby. A beginner? Try FREE skiing with rope tow at the local Schroon Lake Golf Course. Enjoy skiing during the day and relaxing around the cozy fireplace at night. We will keep plenty of firewood on hand to keep your fire crackling. Not a skier?
